WHY Independent Care????
WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU WANT TO PAY FOR INDEPENDENT MIDWIFERY CARE WHEN YOU CAN GET CARE ON THE NHS FOR FREE 🤔🤔🤔?
Excellent question.
And one I asked myself before having my first baby too. Here are some answers…please feel free to add more in the comments if anything springs to mind.
* first of all, this level of care is not available on the NHS, no matter what area you are in, even if there is continuity provision.
* you get to ‘handpick your team’ ♥️
* because we can provide you with and support you through all your care, at the time that you wish, in your own home 🏠
* because we will have *lots of time* to get to know you and your family (2 hour appointments anyone???)
* because we have the time to find out what is important to you, and we perceive ourselves to be having more freedom as autonomous practitioners than NHS midwives usually feel they have ✊✊✊
* because we are always happy to provide you with evidence based care, even if the evidence has not quite filtered through into national/trust guidelines yet
* because you will have lots of time to get to know US, with all our quirks and weirdnesses 🧐, relationship based midwifery care is AWESOME 🥰
* because you won't have to tell your story over and over again to different people (not all people's stories are happy ones 😔)
* because we are happy to look at your previous experiences and explain what happened without defensiveness, only honesty and constructiveness
* because we can lend you resources...books/slings/Haakas/electric pumps/etc
* because we feel REALLY strongly that all your care decisions are YOURS and yours alone, but we will do our absolutely best to enable you to make the ones you are ultimately going to be happy with
* because we can support you at hospital appointments should you choose to have any and advocate for you if necessary 🏥(once Covid allows again)
* because we will be there when you call us to your birth (and we won't be offended or have safeguarding concerns if you don't) (once we have indemnty back 😭)
* because we will stay with you until your baby is born, wherever that may be 🐣(once we have indemnity back 😭)
* because we can sit with you to support you through the struggles and share the joys of early motherhood with you without judgement
*because we can see you as much as necessary to get you through that postnatal muddle (yes, I have seen someone postnatally close to 30 times….it was needed)
* because we will know exactly what is normal for you and what is not, because we KNOW you and your baby
* because when the shit hits the fan/things veer off plan/things get tough, we will stick with you 💩
* because we think postnatal care/mothering the mother is invaluable for families and will visit you for many weeks
* because we will be there for you when you need to talk about your birth * because we LOVE what we do and it shows ❤️❤️❤️
