Hi. I’m Debs.

I have been a midwife since 2000 and have worked most of that time independently. In the last 20 years my clients have taught me more than I thought I needed to know about being a good midwife, each one in a different way. I am now even more convinced that a person’s pregnancy, birth and postnatal experience has the potential to be highly transformative, joyful and empowering. However I am also deeply conscious of the fact that sometimes pregnancy or birthing a baby can be the catalyst for physical, emotional or spiritual difficulties, and I am committed to walk alongside you through the sometimes hard to navigate muddle that early parenthood can bring.

I always strive to provide you with the information you need to make the choices that are right for you. And there will be no judgement from me for the choices you are making. But I will always have your back. I have two older children myself, both born with an independent midwife present. I’m registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and a member of the Royal College Of Nursing (RCN). I won ‘Best Healthcare Professional’ in the 2016 Gentle Parenting Awards, was shortlisted for ‘Best Midwife’ in the 2017 MAMA Awards and won Best Independent Midwife 2023 in the MAMA Academy Awards in 2023. I enjoy knitting, cooking and as of late, gardening! I also have a husband, 3 cats and a slightly dark sense of humour on occasion.

This podcast may tell you quite a lot about how I practice as a midwife and why: https://anchor.fm/formodernmothers/episodes/13--The-importance-of-GOOD-postnatal-care-with-guest-Debs-Neiger-e1e2a6v/a-a4b4qcf

On Inclusivity

This world is unfair. Pregnancy and birth already feel like a vulnerable time for many, but Black families,  families of colour, families with an LGBTQ identity and families living with disabilities are even more vulnerable in this world. They are more likely to come to harm during their childbearing year, physically and emotionally. Often BECAUSE of racist, culturally incompetent, non adaptive and prejudiced maternity care. I myself do not face any of the  specific challenges faced by those families, but I’m aware of their difficulties and proactively work  to be anti racist, LGBTQ aware, inclusive and flexible, always. I will have your back too and provide a safe space for your family.
